Magic Thursday: A Step Into the Unknown... with Michelle Somers / ML Winters

Sometimes life leads us in the most unexpected directions.

Sometimes we need to trust our gut, have faith, and take a step into the dark unknown. Six years ago, I did just this, and it was one of the best writing decisions I’ve made in my writing career.

I always believed I was a hard-core romantic suspense lover. Considering writing, yet alone reading, another romance genre was unthinkable. That was until I discovered a world filled with magical, mythical creatures, a world I can tailor and build and grow, in which my characters can be and do anything I want. 

The paranormal world. 

Let’s jump into a time machine. The year is 2018 and I’m staring at a blank computer screen, cursor blinking, clock ticking, teeth grinding, and I have . . . nothing. The characters who so readily whispered their stories to me previously were silent. The ideas had dried up. 

I began to panic.

I began to question whether I would ever write another story again. 

Then a dear friend suggested I try something new. She encouraged me to craft a story based in fantasy. I wasn’t convinced I had it in me, but I promised to give it a roaring go. It wasn’t as if I had any other brilliant ideas.

Then it happened.

A year of writer’s block, finally ended . . . with the birth of a sexy vampire biker, a sassy, love-jaded chemist, and a flu pandemic with the potential to turn the greater population into a horde of bloodthirsty monsters. It was an idea born pre-covid and pre even a hint of a global pandemic. Maybe a little prophetic? Who knows? 

And just like that, I fell in love. With a host of unique and fanciful characters. With a fantastical world. With all the delicious possibilities. 

Her Biker’s Bite is the first book in my Steamy Bites series, and it’s one helluva ride you’ll never forget. 

I’m forever grateful to my friend for suggesting a change. I stepped out of my comfort zone and found a new home.
